If you’ve had the privilege to attend a wedding, shower or major party of any kind in the last two years, you’ve doubtless seen an old-timey banner on display. You know the kind I mean–the triangle flags made of fabric or burlap with letters painted or stenciled on them. Aside from being cute decorations, they serve a purpose. Bearing words and phrases like “Mr. & Mrs.”, “BABY”, “Happy Birthday”, or “Congratulations, Graduate!”, they highlight what’s important and what’s worth celebrating. Like marquee’s, they announce the main attraction and draw your focus to the essential so you won’t miss it.
He placed me at his banquet table,
for everyone to see that his banner over me is love. ~Song of Solomon 2:4 (The Voice)
For the Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. ~Zephaniah 3: 17 (NLT)
The last few weeks these verses rumble around in my brain and heart. The world, the voices in our brain, the devil, want to hang banners over us that read things like “shameful”, “loser”, “needs discipline”, “can’t be trusted”, and “dumb & dumber”. But what God wants the world to see, what He wants to highlight about you, is that you are loved. What God wants you to know today, is that His banner over you doesn’t announce your failures or sins or shortcomings. God’s Banner over you reads “Love”.
Please don’t miss it:
